Everyone knows someone who has dealt with divorce in their family and it effects all children involved and people involved with those children. Unfortunately, it is an ever growing situation in the United States. It is important for the parents and all involved to communicate productively to help the children grow and have good communication skills themselves. The effects of communication barriers can be very detrimental to childrens social skills and their capabilities to function productively is many situations they may encounter later in life. When families are facing divorce or have decided divorce the situations before can already be hurting the child, but what comes after can affect them more. It is important for the parents involved to put their personal feelings aside and try to have a professional like relationship. It is hard enough for children to deal with divorce, the change of family living, way things are ran in the household, people living in the home or maybe even moving to new cities etc. There are a lot of changes that occur and it is very stressful for all involved but hardest normally on the children that are involved. Sometimes the situation before is not better and actually after the parents are divorced the relationships can prosper. Sometimes one parent becomes distant then the other or absent completely, but for the sake of the child it is most important for both parents to continue in the childs life and to keep the communications lines open. The communication between the parents and the children are very important for success of good relationships to continue. When there is bad communication it can cause on parent to become favored or bad mouthing the other the child which can lead the child resenting the parent that is saying bad things about the other parent. It also may affect the childs relationship with that parent that is being talked bad about. A child's relationship with his or her parents following a divorce is critical to the child's adjustment. Although the distress of not being with both parents is one of the most painful parts of divorce, it is the continuing relationship that children have with their parents that is essential to their long-term adjustment. This highlights the importance of not criticizing the other parent in front of the child (Foulkes-Jamison. 2001). Putting down or talking bad about the other parent is not healthy for the child. Children tend not to tell you when they are angry, resentful, confused, hurt or depressed. Instead, they reflect their problems through their behavior -- acting out or perhaps turning inward in ways that you have not experienced prior to the divorce.(Sedacca, 2012) The child can become angry, confrontational, depressed and can cause the child to become withdrawn. Many times when the parents do not communicate the kid is more affected then the parents even if they may not see it. The child may hide it from the parents and keep all the hurt inside. They may also try and use one parents against the other to get what they want. The parents will sometimes compete for the childs love and attention. They may use the style of competing I win, You lose. The competitive style involves great concern for your own needs and desires and little for those of others (DeVito, 2012). With this the parent is more concerned about winning and their own feelings or need to win then the childs feelings and needs. They just want to beat the other parent. It is a sad cycle that happens to often, where one just wants to win and doesnt care about those involved or the outcomes of their actions. It is important that the parents communicate to one another, about grades, school, doctors appointments, sports, friends, any problems they are having adjusting or just their changes in personality. The word venture literally means a risky undertaking, which makes venture capitalists risk-takers. However, like all other types of investors, venture capitalists will only invest if perceived returns are greater than perceived risk. The saying, greater the risk, greater the return holds for venture capital financing provided it is not a speculative deal. Therefore, it is necessary to identify and quantify the probability of risk. The study by MacMillan, Siegel, and Narasimha have been undertaken to determine which criteria are important for evaluate new venture proposals. Some criteria have been point out by the Journal as the common criteria. This article is going to have a review on those criteria provide by MacMillan, Siegel, and Narasimaha and have a critical analysis whether those criteria provided could make the venture proposals successful. Summaries of the journal According to the study, the most important criteria is the quality of the entrepreneur that ultimately determines the funding decision. In the first part of the study, 24 criteria were scaled under 5 catalogs and use a survey method to examine the importance of them. The results of the study have found out that personality and experience, product and market characteristics and financial consideration are the most important criteria for venture capitalists to qualify the proposals. For personality and experience, the most important personality characteristics are evidence of staying power and an ability to handle risk. For product and market characteristics, the most important characteristic appears to be some proprietary protection. Finally for the financial considerations, the key concerns are with high upside potential and high investment liquidity. Then the study has identified 5 out of 10 most commonly rated criteria as essential have to do with the entrepreneurs themselves. By and large venture capitalists will not back ventures unless the entrepreneur is capable of sustained effort, has demonstrated leadership in the past, evaluates and reacts to risk well, has a track record relevant to the venture, and is capable of articulating the venture well. The study has also point out the characteristics of critically flawed proposals is a is important for venture capitalists to qualify the projects. That is , proposals that would be rejected by a significant majority of venture capitalists if they had only two flaws of the previous mentioned five most important criteria. Finally, with a factor analysis, the study allocates the venture capitalists into 3 broad types the Purposeful Risk Managers, the Determined Eclectics and the Parachutists. The Purposeful Risk Managers seeks the entrepreneurs with demonstrated leadership skills and a product and market with characteristics that clearly reduce the risk to manageable levels. The Determined Eclectics appear to deliberately impose an absolute minimum number of restrictions. And the Parachutists willing to support most ventures as long as they feel that they have a high liquidity parachute. The study by MacMillan, Siegel and Narasimha did provide us some common criteria for evaluating new proposals, but there are still some critics on those criteria listed by the author. Critiques of the journal According to the conclusion of the journal, the most important thing to consider for evaluation a new proposal is the quality of the entrepreneur. But in the real world venture capital practices there are some cases which quite match the criteria provide by MacMillan, Siegel and Narasimha and still failed. For example, according to the information provided by the study of MacMillan, Siegel and Subbanarasimha 1987, the investment on a highly familiar with the targeted market and had a well-established relevant track record team could just failed because the lack in capacity for sustained and intense effort. And also, according to the flawed ventures studies in this journal, it was said that if the proposals cannot match at least two of those indicator criteria the venture capitals would give up it. But there do are some example that represents a venture team lacking in terms of all the desirable criteria but only have high product protection and become successful. Finally, we should mention that Research by social judgment theorists suggests that espoused decision-making processes (that this present arguing study fallen in) may be a less than accurate reflection of in use decision-making processes (Shepherd, 1999, p.76). Conclusion The study that carried out by MacMillan, Siegel and Narasimha provide us some common criteria for evaluating new venture proposals. Those criteria are useful tools to indicate the successful of certain venture. Some of those criteria are key finds that still influence the venture capitalists in nowadays. But we should also notice there are numbers of criteria for judging a new proposal and some of those criteria have been marked as important criteria. But in real world practice proposals might be failed just because the lacking of the least important criteria even if they have all the other important criteria. And also, some venture cases may well successful with only one less important criteria (product protection) even they do not have any other desirable criteria mentioned by the study. As venture capital present a risk taking action, it is better to have a careful view on those criteria and chose the most appropriate one to reduce the risk to the lowest point. This paper defines capitalism and explores its origins in economist Adam Smiths Wealth of Nations back in 1776.It also discusses critics of the system, the most influential being Karl Marx whose Marxism theory claimed that economic crises and capitalism are linked. The Cahokian civilization provides the basis for political, economic, and social developments that ââ¬Å"changed the course of human history.â⬠( Timothy Pauketat) After reading Timothy Pauketatââ¬â¢s insightful essay, ââ¬Å" Cahokia: A Pre-Columbian American Cityâ⬠, I was intrigued by the Cahokiaââ¬â¢s people and culture. This society quickly evolved from a village to an elaborate city. The Cahokian complex architectural aspects included better homes, pyramids and plazas. Through expansion, their beliefs and customs were diffused into other civilizations. Due to warfare, many complex advancements were designed to protect the central city. An elaborate 15, 000 log wall was built to defend their city. The advanced Cahokian society was developed prior to any European interaction. Having known very little about such a complex and elaborate civilization, I was intrigued by many of the Cahokian developments and beliefs. Their centralized authority, the nature and the extent of their influence over vast areas, are aspects of many other European civilizations. This essay challenged many of my prior ideas and beliefs about the Native Americans. The city planning and the organization of the city of Cahokia resembled the city of ancient Rome. The Cahokian civilization used the method of Cahokianization to expand and spread their ideologies throughout their territory. Similarly, the ancient Romans used the method of Romanization to expand and spread their empire. Both societies developed and utilized similar military tactics and strategies. Under the rule of Constantine I, the Romans built a wall to protect their city from invaders, the Cahokians built a wall made of logs for protection. These two distant civilizations demonstrated similar ideologies and strategies. I have gained more insight and knowledge after reading Timothy Pauketatââ¬â¢s essay on the intricate city of Cahokia. It is puzzling that such a complex society that had lasted for about 250 years just vanished. Many archeologists have different ideas on the collapse and disappearance of Cahokia. It is incomprehensible that such an elaborate society vanished and is forgotten in many history books. The civilization of Cahokia was advanced, complex and sophisticated. This innovative tribe challenges the European ideologies of viewing Native Americans as primitive and ignorant. This civilization provided the economic, social and political standards that was implemented in other civilizations.

Chicago's Negro When studying urban living spaces, one question that always comes to mind is how a particular urban space or neighborhood came into existence. I have grown up on the South Side of Chicago for the past 19 years in a community known as Pill Hill. My neighborhood, a middle-class Chicago neighborhood, came to gain its name because of all the doctors and health-care professionals who resided in the neighborhood in the 1960ââ¬â¢s. In addition, I have also had the opportunity to live outside of the city in a northern suburb known as Highland Park: Along the lakefront of Chicago are some of the most affluent communities in the United States. In both median household income and per capita income, Northbrook, Highland Park, and Wilmette and among the nationââ¬â¢s ten wealthiest communities with a population of about 25,000 or more. There are other salient characteristics of these three communities: they are virtually all white and they have virtually no subsidized housing. (Squires 117) The rigors and din of the city are all but removed from life in Highland Park. Nevertheless, Highland Park, IL has faced its own share of trouble in the past decade for the discrimination that the corrupt local government has plagued minorities with. The living conditions in Highland Park are drastically different from those of the South Side of Chicago in that the average property value of a home in the year 2000 was $662,755 while the average home in Pill Hill sold for $180,323. (Citizens United for Justice) Nevertheless, Highland Park is just a single example of Chicagoââ¬â¢s many affluent northern suburbs that developed in the 1850ââ¬â¢s. Growing up in the city my entire life and having lived in different socio-economic conditions, I have grown immune to the extraordinary degree of racial segregation present in Chicago. As an African American, I have always felt comfortable living on the South Side of Chicago and not until I had the opportunity to live in both Highland Park and a neighboring suburb, Lake Forest, did I truly know what it felt like to be a minority. Nevertheless, this was not always the case for most blacks. From the early 1900ââ¬â¢s, blacks resided on the South Side of Chicago, not by choice, but because of strict discriminatory housing laws that forbade the sale of homes in certain areas to blacks.

We live in a world where there are so many choices and no one but ourselves are responsible for the foods we eat. In this essay I will compare and contrast the differences between eating healthy foods instead of not so healthy foods. First I'm going to discuss the healthy foods. The two areas of healthy food I'm going to talk about are the benefits and taste.The Benefits of eating healthy foods are that our bodies stay healthy, keeps you full and satisfied longer during the day, giving you more energy through out the day and in the long run keeping us out of the doctor's office. If you're trying to lose weight consuming healthy foods is a start to lose weight. The taste of healthy foods is fresher and if you prepare it well the taste will satisfy you but it can sometimes lack good taste if you don't know how to prepare it. Second I'm go ing to discuss the benefits and taste of the not healthy foods.There s no benefit of eating food that isn't healthy for you. When we consume foods that have no benefits we end up with all types of health problems like diabetes, heart conditions and being overweight Which all can lead to high medical bills. The taste of these kinds of food might tastes better at the moment due to all the ingredients that are in them and might cost cheaper so it becomes easier for us to consume. Crash Character Analysis
The movie Crash is about a wide variety of people of different races in Los Angeles, California and how they all interweave with each other. In the movie Crash there are many characters that begin to change their ways throughout the movie. One person in the movie that has changed the most is the character Sandra Bullock plays her name is Jean Cabot.The reason being why she has changed is because one night after having dinner, her and husband Rick Cabot are car jacked at gunpoint by two black men in a prestigious and wealthy environment of California. From this experience she is emotionally scarred and stereotypes every race that is not in front of her face. In one scene of the movie, the Cabotââ¬â¢s are getting new locks in their home after they were hijacked. The man who is changing the locks on the door is a Hispanic male who is stereotyped by Jean because of his shaved head, pants around his bottom, and his tattoos. Jean insists to Rick that as soon as the locksmith leaves that he will sell the keys to his ââ¬Å"gang bangerâ⬠friends right as he leaves.The man overheard Janet and leaves the keys in front of her. Janet felt remorse for the words she had said about the locksmith because of her false accusations. In many other scenes of the movie Janet is seen verbally abusing her Hispanic maid Maria. In one scene of the movie, Maria came late to work due to driving her son to school. Janet comes downstairs into the kitchen and finds that Maria did not empty out the dishwasher of all the clean dishes from the night before. Janet lashes out on Maria every chance she gets and eventually fires her.During the end of the movie, Janet Cabot has a realization of her behavior and actions towards anyone who is not the same color as her. One scene of the movie Janet is seen talking on the phone with her friend of ten years about daily events and ends the conversation. After the conversation has ended, Janet falls down the stairs and canââ¬â¢t move. Janet call ed her friend of ten years to come help but she said that she was to busy getting a massage and would not be able to come. In desperation Janet called Maria who came right away to help. In an epiphany, Janet realizes that her maid that she verbally abused everyday was her best friend. She then realizes what is actually wrong and it is mot because of her car being stolen it is becauseà she is just angry all the time.
